The Importance and The Role of Medical Technologist in The Twenty-first Century

Abstract
|
|
|
Medical technologist plays an important role in medical field, especially in the area of revenue of medical institution. Further clinical laboratory produces so many medical information which is indispensable for the physician dealing with his patients. Facing turn of the century, following things should be considered seriously in the aspect of medical laboratory science.
1. Opportunity for continuing education including baccalaureate degree program should be given to junior college graduate medical technologists.
2. The cirtificate program for specialist in medical laboratory science should be established for highly qualified medical service.
3. The level of clinical laboratory should be classified by the capacity and ability to test performance, and reimbursement system for clinical laboratory tests should be categorized by the capacity of clinical laboratory.
4. Korean Association of Medical Technologist should play a key role for the improved working circumstance of medical technologists, especially female technologists engaged in local level of clinics.
5. Employment of disqualified personal in the clinical laboratory should be prohibited and examinations such as biophysiologic tests, phlebotomy should be done by medical technologists.
